Groß is a remarkable young man with a passion for psychology. He took his education in his own hands...with mind blowing success. As soon as Till finished High-School he took his education in his own hands. Groß is a remarkable young man with a passion for psychology. He took his education in his own hands...with mind blowing success. As soon as Till finished High-School he took his education in his own hands. After reading the whole psychology section of the small town library in his city, he set out to personally meet the authors of the books that thrilled him. In 2011, he started to consciously seek out the best psychologists, therapists and coaches all over Europe in order to learn from them. He visited them at home, attended their workshops and engaged in long email conversation asking numerous questions. His teachers were the founders of whole psychotherapy schools, masters in their field and some of the best paid coaches in Europe. Having the best teachers possible sped up Till’s learning curve immensely and enabled him to give talks throughout Germany at the age of 19, hold a guest lecture at the University of Vienna at age 20, conduct his own seminars, found a startup, and work as a coach at the age of 21. Pundits are always selling the latest and greatest "future of education." But what if the answer is already in the room? In this illustrated video, I share some thoughts on the future of education. Enjoy this video? Please subscribe to the channel: http://bit.ly/spencervideos Here are my thoughts on the future of education. Sketched out by hand. Transcript: The future of education can’t be found in a gadget or an app or a program or a product. It doesn’t require a think tank full of pundits. No, the future of education can be found in your classroom. Your classroom is packed with creative potential. You have all the innovation you need right there in your room. You have the power to make it happen. It’s what happens when you experiment. It’s what happens when you give your students voice and choice. It’s what happens when you abandon the scripted curriculum and take your students off-road in their learning. It’s what happens when you teach to your students rather than teaching to the test. It’s what happens when you unleash the creative power of all of your students - when you make the bold decision to let them make things and design things and solve problems that they find relevant. Sometimes it’s messy and even confusing. It often looks humble. But understand this, that every time your students get the chance to be authors, filmmakers, scientists, artists, and engineers. You are planting the seeds for a future you could have never imagined on your own. And that right there is the beauty of creative classrooms. That’s the power of innovative teachers. And the truth is, that is why the future of education is you.

Educator’s Rising encourages middle school and high school students who want to pursue careers in teaching. Students from across New Mexico attended a conference at NMSU and heard from different speakers on different ways of both teaching and learning. One session looked at hands-on STEM learning. Buzzers beeped, lights flashed, and fans spun as students created circuits using the “little bits” systems. Students get clues and have to figure out which parts complete the puzzle. Monique Pino, a senior at Carlsbad high says she was excited to find the correct answer. “I like a lot of challenges,” Pino said. “I like using my mind, so it was pretty fun.” She says students could be inspired to learn with the game-like aspect. “I think it would be more, it would get them more involved,” Pino said. “Then actually doing work on paper.” The Little Bits system has three stages, structured inquiry, guided inquiry and open inquiry. Roshani Rajbanshi, a graduate student with the STEM outreach program at NMSU, says the levels gradually get more challenging. “In the first one they had all the parts together,” Rajbanshi said. “Trying to learn how to do it, how to make a circuit, and then later on they brainstorm, and then a the end their would be open inquiry, you do whatever you need to make it creative and learn from there.” Rajbanshi says when the kids are building their circuits, they are learning with immediate results. “They come to the table,” Rajbanshi said. “The collaborate, the communicate, and they also do it all by their hands, and they can also see what projects are working and what’s not. Rajbanshi says it also teaches them the importance of working together. “When you go out in the field and work,” Rajbanshi said. “You’re not working on your own, you have to have that team. You have to communicate with them, you have to collaborate with them, it’s not one persons thinking. When you have different ideas, the work is much better than when you do it all by yourself, so I think work is really important to.” Annette Hardin teaches English at Carlsbad High School, she says the ideas learned through this hands-on exercise could be applied to subjects beyond science, technology, engineering, and math. “I don’t think enough students are exposed to inquiry based learning,” Hardin said. “This is a true inquiry based learning experience, so they see how it starts with confusion, and have to work together to solve the problem, and it’s really good for them to see that.” Hardin says if they do eventually want to be teachers, it’s important for them to experience different ways to learn. “They need to have all kinds of learning experiences,” Hardin said. “Before they can apply it to being a teacher, so this is great.” Monique Pino is excited to continue learning, and going into a career in teaching. “I’m actually taking an internship class,” Pino said. “So right now, I’m working with third graders for the semester, and that’s going good so far, so I thought I might as well take a trip and get a different experience.” Pino said she would use the ideas she learned from the hands on STEM exercise in a future classroom.

Rudolf Steiner founded the first school in 1919 Stuttgart Germany to educate the children of the factory workers from the Waldorf Astoria Zigaretten Fabrik - hence the name. All kids, independent of social status or talent received the same instruction, which made the school a pioneer of social justice in education. The goal of a Waldorf education is to develop free, but morally responsible individuals equipped with a high degree of social competence and creative capabilities. Factual knowledge, homework and tests scores receive less attention. Storytelling and experimentation are the main method of instruction, textbooks are being avoided. Over the twelve-year curriculum, students learn math, literature, history and science as well as a wide variety of arts and hands-on skills. Elementary students paint, knit, weave and sculpt with wax. Older ones make patterns, books, pottery and sculpt in stone. Everybody learns to do music. First all play the flute, then some play string instruments and others join the choir. Students play non-competitive games and learn to dance eurhythmy. They do organic farming and learn two foreign languages, which in the first years are taught through songs, storytelling and conversations. In grade 8 and 12 the entire class develops a classical drama which they perform in front of their parents and friends. Waldorf uses a unique project based approach to almost all main academic subjects. Instead of repetitive schedules, a specific subject, such as history, math, science or even gardening dominates the first two hours in the morning for a period of 4-6 weeks. After that, a new subject gets the main focus. Steiner also invented an experiential approach to science whereby students observe and later describe scientific concepts in their own words and drawings rather than learning about them in a textbook first. Waldorf schools therefore consider computers useful to children only in their teens, after they have mastered fundamental, time-honored ways of discovering information and learning. In the spirit of personal development and empathy, competition and grades are being avoided. Teachers instead assess the student’s individual growth of character. Tests scores and grades are only slowly introduced to older students as they prepare for college and entrance exams. Today there are over a thousand Waldorf schools in 60 countries, making it one of the largest independent school movements. Waldorf has become a recognised educational theory in Europe and its schools have received state funding.

Using Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby items I put together 10+ toddler learning activities inspired by Montessori practices. Making learning fun is what it's all about! What is Montessori? Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activity. Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. Crider ________________________________________________________ Abbreviated Transcript: 00:42 I use Swiss made Grobet files for the vast majority of my filing and I find them to be excellent. So If you're looking to track some down, be sure to confirm that they are actually made in Switzerland before you buy, and keep an eye out for the bunny on the tang. Number 2: Safe edges are enourmously useful when precision filing. 01:22 A safe edge like this effectively isolates the cutting to a single surface, and it forms a key part of my filing technique. Because when I'm filing something that needs to be precise, like for example a rectangle thats required to be dead on center. I like to have the basic target profile formed, very early in the filing process, before I use up too much of the available metal. 02:49 Next I identify the critical corners of the workpiece. These are the locations that must be well positioned for the part to be acceptable. And then I start the cut working directly towards those corners, with the objective of establishing the overall shape whilst using up as little of the metal margin as possible. 03:32 And its not unusual for this last part of the process to take up most of the time. Because there's often only a handful of file strokes between a tight and a perfect fit. The very last thing I want to do is take it too far, and remove too much metal. Now this idea can be applied to just about any profile, whether it be internal or external. 04:07 If I get the corners correctly established early, then the orientation can be locked in. And the whole shape can be slowly worked toward the final profile. Now of course that's the ideal, but it rarely goes according to the plan, which leads to tip Number 4. 05:36 Now there is an even more immediate technique that can be used to pick up errors, as they occur. Just prior to each cut, a light cross grain pattern can be made on the surface of the work, and then a light can be positioned to make that pattern more visible. 06:14 Because it means that rather than reacting after completing a surface, I can take a much more proactive approach while the cut is in progress. And it makes creating a taper or dealing with a localised error easier too. Just mark the region where more metal needs to be removed, and then concentrate the work there. 06:59 And although the effect is quite subtle, the shop itself has a few reference edges too, that can also help the process. Aligning the work with the vise, and then the vise with the bench means that all of these edges that are sitting in my peripheral vision as I work, and can now also give me cues for better alignment of the file. 07:38 And the fact that its held with both hands means that there's a good controlled grip to keep it that way. So the technique is perfect for delivering a very precise surface. Its also an excellent technique help generate on 2 or more parts at the same time. 08:47 And the same idea can be expanded to generate more complex shapes using guides, like for example the crossings on this wheel. The shape near the center of the wheel needs to be exactly the same for each opening, and a filing guide makes this much easier to achieve.
